The scenery collapses, cues are missed, lines forgotten, and the sound effects take on a strange note at times, as the ladies present their ambitious evening's entertainment with the cunning whodunit, "Murder at Checkmate Manor". Antique boats, examples of classic and traditional vessels, workboats, and fiberglass and aluminum classics will all be on display throughout the day. This festival emphasizes the maritime history of our picturesque coastal town. Special highlights include authentic oyster boats, workboats, and home-built boats by skilled craftsmen, antique outboard engines, plus antique automobiles and art booths. The classic, gaff rigged schooner, Governor Stone, will be featured dockside. Built in 1877, it has been totally restored and is an exhibit unto itself. It is a National Historic Landmark…9-5pm

Forgotten Coast Great Paint-out

Nationally recognized Plein air artists have been selected to capture the allure of the Florida's Forgotten Coast with paint and canvas. Artists will be painting on the beach, across the marsh, beside the lakes and throughout the streets of waterfront towns from Mexico Beach, Windmark, Port St. Joe, Cape San Blas, Apalachicola, Eastpoint, St. George Island, Carrabelle, and inland at Wewahitchka. You are cordially invited to join us at this premier art exhibition and sale featuring on-location artists. Experience beauty through the eyes of America's finest Plein air artists! Two artist will be staying at the Coombs Inn and will be available to watch or for Q&A.

Fine art in all forms will be woven in and around picturesque downtown Apalachicola where artists will be showing, selling and demonstrating their talents from 11-6 pm pm. Festivities continue into the afternoon with a wine tasting and hors d’ oeuvres from 3-5 pm at area restaurants. Later in the evening local chefs will prepare special dishes at their restaurants highlighting our fresh local ingredients.

Friday upon arrival enjoy our Halloween cookies and tea followed by a private tour at 5pm of the pre-Civil War Raney Mansion. You will be greeted by two historic ghostly figures and lead through this museum by Apalachicola's Historic Association President Bill Spohrer. All the way from Maryland for 5 days demo and easel side intense critique and instruction, hosted by Pastel Society of Apalachicola and the Coombs House Inn . We meet Sunday evening Nov.1st at the famous 1838 historic Cotton Warehouse on Water street at 4:00 for a reception and demo by Jack hosted by Plein-Air's Director Joe Taylor, meet and greet and kick off the week. ( Followed by a private students only dinner together of Oysters and Seafood.) Monday Nov. 2 at 9:00 a.m. the workshop begins with another demo by Jack and a trip to one of the many local landscape vistas. Each day will give us shrimp boats, marshes, sand dunes, lighthouses, lots of demos and lots of instruction, to be followed each day by group critiques and wine tasting. All 5 days Nov .2-6 will be excitingly unique. The very special price for the entire week is only $399. Florida Seafood Festival

The Florida Seafood Festival is a two day event annually drawing thousands of visitors to Apalachicola. Watch the parade from one of the Coombs Inn verandas. The Festival is held at the mouth of the Apalachicola River under the shady oaks of Apalachicola's Battery Park. The festival features delicious seafood, arts and crafts exhibits, seafood related events, and musical entertainment. Other fun events include the Oyster Eating and Shucking contests, Blue Crab Races, Cooking Contest, 5k Redfish Run and The Blessing of the Fleet.
